The Power of Infrared Saunas
When it comes to detoxification, we're not new to the power of sweating, but we were curious to know more about why infrared saunas are cited as being so effective (as there are sweat-based infrared studies popping up around the country). Curiously, we asked Dr. Jünger a few questions about how they work and where to find the best ones.
Sweating in a heated room has gone beyond time and many
cultures: from Roman times to the ancient Greeks and Russians, as well as
Native Americans who had sweat houses, mankind knew the benefits of sweating.
The skin is our largest organ, and sweat is one of the main channels for the
elimination of toxins.
In fact, fever is our body's way of creating conditions for
the immune system to function better. Interestingly, there are clinics in
Germany creates hyperthermia during chemotherapy in order to reduce the
required dose of drugs, making cancer cells more susceptible. The same effect
occurs (at a less extreme level) when using the sauna: perspiration activates
and intensifies the elimination of toxins. Infrared heat produces significant
additional benefits: it has on humans, it has been shown to increase the sauna
experience, it has been shown to be beneficial for the heavy musculoskeletal
system, increase blood flow, the cellular activity of the immune system.
Infrared in the light spectrum is what we perceive as heat.
It causes sweating of the body at lower temperatures than is necessary for
conventional convection heated saunas, so people can tolerate it better. As
infrared radiation penetrates deeper, up to three inches, it mobilizes and
burns fat, which not only helps with weight loss but also detoxification, since
many of the toxins we absorb are surrounded by fat. Infrared saunas are also
smaller and easier to install than conventional saunas and are more affordable.
I try to go to the sauna every day until I sweat. It will
take no more than 15 minutes. Longer 30-minute sessions 3-4 times a week are
also a great plan. But in general, do it as often as possible.
One of the perks of an infrared sauna is that it is smaller and more affordable, so if you have space and budget, they are a great addition. (You can also find infrared saunas on our list of locations here.)
Dr. Jünger has recommended a couple of brands that he likes for price, size, performance, and wood finish. It is important to note that your sauna is not built with hidden toxic materials, including certain types of adhesives or wood that contain toxins and allergens.
Health Companion
Health Mate has been in infrared technology for over 30 years, and while there are many competitors now, they are still some of the best. They also make saunas smaller and therefore cheaper and more suitable for lower legs, knees, and feet.
Clear light
Made from high-quality Nordic spruce or cedar, the various models come with a wide range of bells and whistles, although we have found that the simplest and most “essential” Nordic spruce saunas work and have a stereo system that you can tune during your sessions. ...
Sauna Ray
We first heard of Sauna Ray at Toxin Toxout: Rodney Palmer
is building his infrared sauna brand in Ontario from the local hypoallergenic
Ontario linden tree. He is very aware of all the materials he uses to
hand-assemble his gear and is 100% free of toxins, no plastic, fiberglass,
plywood (which may contain formaldehyde), halogen lamps or polymers, and any
solvents.
