Infrared Saunas Will Not ‘Detoxify’ You

In a basement in Manhattan, people are sweating. And, it might interest you, they are naked. They sweat to flush out toxins, lose weight, improve their complexion, and experience euphoria, and if you listen to the suppliers of infrared saunas, they will do more than that. You will improve circulation, reduce pain, and leave your tiny private sauna cubicles relaxed, with all your earthly stressors, pains, and toxins, whatever they are, soaked in water. clean white towel.

Sounds too good to be true, right? If it is true. But, as the adage goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it is usually as good as it sounds, especially when you look closely at his vague statements. Or wait, what does this proverb sound like?

Infrared saunas use infrared light to heat the body from the inside, not the outside air, as a traditional sauna does. Because of this, saunas can operate at lower temperatures, typically around 157 degrees Fahrenheit, compared to over 200, while still providing the same cardiovascular benefits (backed by science). Infrared sauna manufacturers claim that the light penetrates the skin deeper than the heat of a traditional sauna, producing more sweat, which results in more "toxins" being released.

Infrared light has recently grown from a trend mostly in Los Angeles to a trend in New York and elsewhere and is a favorite of the Kardashians, various real housewives, Dr. Oz, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Chelsea. Manipulator. Saunas have recently been featured in Vogue, Thrillist, New York and more, and were the subject of an article in the New York Times last August. The reach is usually gullible; Surprisingly, the most skeptical position I encountered was in a post on the Equinox gym website titled Science Behind Infrared Saunas, which compares industry claims (many) with scientific evidence supporting their claims (in fact, no one). However, the Equinox blog post comes to the same conclusion as the rest of the report: Of course, the claims that the manufacturers of infrared saunas make have not been confirmed yet, but ... uh ... they do it anyway.

To experience the infrared sauna, I visited HigherDOSE, the Manhattan basement I talked about earlier. The spa currently has two locations in town and I visited the flagship located under the Bowery Alchemist kitchen. The space is dark, gloomy, and casual, and each of the small, private rooms has a pitcher of filtered, ionized, and alkaline water. I went twice, not because I especially need him for this story, but because I was able to use this story as an excuse to go a second time. It seemed silly from the start, but I often pay silly money and I love it. For example, after the first session in the sauna, I drank a glass of juice for $ 10.

We will come back to this later.

A true infrared sauna is a small room in your little private room, and it comes with LED lighting for chromotherapy (an information brochure in the room states that green LED light can help cure cancer - awesome!) And an AUX input for games. music through the sound system of your sauna. What kind of music have I listened to? Great question, thanks. I heard Ambient 1: Airport Music by Brian Eno and it was a great choice. Eno is amazing infrared sauna music. The album is also what the author heard while reviewing HigherDOSE. Maybe Eno's next collection of ambient shades should be called "Music for Infrared Saunas" and NOT that he necessarily supports infrared saunas.

Having poured myself a glass of alkaline, ionized, filtered water (the ionized and alkaline properties of which are not needed at best), I took off my clothes, wrapped myself in a towel and lay down on another towel that was provided in the sauna and began to sweat. I continued to lie down and sweat for 45 minutes of my stay. It was warm and relaxing. I love to relax and do nothing, especially when it’s for work, and I love to sweat, especially when it’s not work-related.
